NORTH CAMPUS—Halloween is quickly approaching, and friend groups are getting together their last-minute group costumes. Among one group of friends, the selection process is exceedingly contentious, with each girl vying for their favorite character. However, Zara Saunders ‘28, the only minority in her friend group, already knows who she’s going to be.
This year, Saunders and her friends, Jessica Brandt ‘28, Bella Decker ‘28, and Alexis Sherman ‘28, decided to dress up as the Disney Fairies: Tinker Bell, Vidia, Silvermist, and Blackerinna, the Black Person Black Fairy.
“Obviously, I’m going to be Tinker Bell,” said Brandt. “I figured Bella could be Vidia because she’s so funny, like, actually the funniest person ever, and Alexis could be Silvermist since she’s also super witty and smart. Maybe Zara could be Blackerinna, the Black Person Blackity Black Black Fairy, since she also likes to read?”
Because Blackerinna, a Black Fairy from Blackville with Black features and Black hair, is a rather obscure character in the Tinker Bell franchise, Saunders is worried that people may not know who she is. Fortunately, her personality is just like Blackerinna’s, making things pretty clear.
“Of course, Zara had to be Blackity Black Black Blackerinna!” Decker said. “They literally make the same exact kinds of jokes.”
At press time, Saunders was seen putting together her Lando Calrissian costume for Halloweekend night two, whose strength and resolve remind her friends of her.
