After scrolling through the Instagram pages of all candidates, CU Nooz’s Editorial Team believes that no presidential candidate demonstrates the corruption and lack of respect necessary to fully represent the institutional values of this paper: power and relentless greed.
Cornell stands at a precipice. We’re not sure why, or how to fix it, but the stakes are historically at an all-time high. At this critical juncture, Nooz is dedicated to the pursuit of general profits, and we will place our trust in whoever is willing to engage in under the table mutually beneficial negotiations of dubious morality and questionable legality.
The Student Assembly has historically welcomed monetary favors from outside interest groups, but no longer can the Editorial Board hold ambivalence towards the status quo. Our representatives must be willing to do whatever it takes to represent the self-interests of a select few, and to subjugate the rest of the student body. We need a stronger, more tangible policy that actively encourages us to perform corruption in the open, rather than hide in the shadows.
It was the political scholar Yaron Ezrahi who claimed that democratic institutions are legitimized by the press, who verifies facts as a dispassionate skeptic in a complex world where the truth is neither obvious nor forthcoming. We disagree. The truth has always been obvious, and facts need not be verified, so long as you, the next president/vice president/representative, are down for a little quid pro quo.
