NOVICK’S CAFE — This fall season, unsuspecting freshmen flocked to Novick’s Cafe on North campus, greeted by the shining monolith of the highly awaited fall menu.
Featuring classics like the Pumpkin Spice Latte, Novick’s took their seasonal spirit a step further by debuting more unique iterations of autumn favorites. The “Moldy Leaf Macchiato” and “Rotten Apple Americano” premiered in October, promising to be new territory for many experienced cafe-goers.
Hazel Connors ‘30, decked in her cable knit sweater and knee-high suede boots, expressed her excitement for the innovative menu, “I haven’t seen anything like this before,” she remarked, jubilantly swirling the liquid in her cup. “I love trying new things!” Moments later, bystanders saw Connors wincing at her first sip. Yanking out a twig lodged between her teeth, Connors tossed her scarf over her shoulder and clopped out of the building, dejected.
Eager cafe-goers noticed the constant movement of baristas in and out Novick’s doors. Suspicion peaked as muddy tracks accumulated on the floors and cups came in filled with murky liquid. When approached by disgruntled patrons, Novick’s manager Horace Clay offered some clarity: “Yeah, budget’s been tight, so we get a little creative around here,” he said as he slammed a lid on a cloudy concoction and handed it to a customer, “I thought everyone knew this.”
As the Fall season comes to a close, Novick’s is excited to debut their winter and Christmas themed menu, featuring more originals such as Coal Cappuccino and Reindeer Scat Latte.
