Cornell Engineering Debuts ‘This Is What A David Duffield Looks Like’ Shirt

DUFFIELD HALL—Following a historic donation from David A. Duffield ’62, MBA ’64, the College of Engineering has edited the text of its iconic  “This Is What A Cornell Engineer Looks Like” to instead read “This Is What A David Duffield Looks Like.”

The change, the College of Engineering says, will recognize Duffield for his enormous gift of $371.5 million and aid in his lifelong mission of having his name on a t-shirt.

“Duffield stands out for his transformational accomplishments and his determination to do the greatest good,” President Michael I. Kotlikoff said, “whether that be in the field of engineering or the typesetting of graphic tees is no matter.”

Duffield has become one of the University’s largest donors, a step he says is integral to his goal of cultivating young minds, and having his name printed on vanity pens, graduation mugs, and other paraphernalia made from plastic.

“People assume that I make donations because I want my name on another building. They would be misguided,” Duffield said. “Rather, what I’ve truly always wanted is a washable Hydroflask sticker, the kind that doesn’t fade in the dishwasher or summer sun. You know, the ones that you can peel on and off as you please, moving them whenever you change your mind on their position? No, no, none of that cheap RedBubble shit–I want one with a holographic sheen. Yeah, that kind.”

At press time, Duffield was reportedly offering $10 to any student who “knows their way around a button maker machine.”
