BARTON HALL — At the annual fall career fair, engineer Erin Zhang ‘28 was seen making a beeline for her favorite company’s booth, eager to debut her newest creation.
“In the age of optimization and automation I believe this is the next step in the recruitment world,” Zhang said in a pitch to recruiters. “Allow me to demonstrate. Ahem. Hello, nice to meet you! My name is Erin and I’m an engineer passionate about leveraging cross-functional collaboration to architect scalable solutions to complex technical challenges! Here is my resume!”
Her state-of-the-art setup is surprisingly sleek, integrating standard 8.5 x 11 inch resumes with a heavy-duty cross-cut shredder employing LiDAR and point-cloud detection to determine when the resume has entered a pile of other resumes and activate the destruction sequence. Recruiter Raj Jection shared his emotional reaction, calling her solution “elegant” and “breathtaking.”
“If this becomes standard practice, my workload will be reduced by 200%,” Jection stated over the melodious sounds of shredding.
Zhang says she is very satisfied with the exchange, having traded days worth of preparation, years worth of experience and most of her dignity for a ballpoint pen with the company logo on it.
