MILSTEIN HALL—Milstein Hall has become a popular spot for Cornell’s skateboarding community of roughly 100 people who own a skateboard and about 6 or 7 skateboarders. Tuesday evening, one member of the former group took the sidewalk to get in some practice.
“I hope no one saw that,” said Max Rodriguez ‘27, whose skateboard broke the sound barrier as it skidded across the ground.
Everyone saw that. And everyone heard it, too.
According to Rodriguez, he is doing a cool, new trick where instead of landing with your feet on the board, you completely miss and land on your ass, sending the board flying away from you.
“Oh, no, I didn’t fall,” said Rodriguez, “I was doing a new trick of mine, ‘the reverse of ollie.’ It’s just like a regular ollie, except instead of finishing standing, you finish splayed out on the ground and bleeding.”
Rodriguez says he will continue reading WikiHow to Skateboard until he feels confident enough to ride literally anywhere else on campus.
