Op-Ed: Discrimination? 104West! Won’t Serve Me Food Today

As a native son of Western New York, I did not get much exposure to Jewish cuisine (or people) before I came to Cornell. But I’ve visited 104West! dining hall several times since I started living around the corner, and I have met many friends there. I’m very grateful for this opportunity to broaden my horizons!

This is why it made me so sad to find the dining hall closed today. I know they’re closed sometimes—not sure if there’s some sort of schedule to that—but why today?

I don’t mean to jump to this conclusion, but… are they sick of me? Is it because I’m an outsider? Is it because I asked for cheese that one time? (I still don’t know what that was about—the beef could use some extra flavor!) I’m sure there are more things I’ve done that I don’t even know about! I wish I could ask one of my new Jewish friends, but I can’t seem to get a hold of them today. They won’t even answer my calls!

To my friends at 104West!: I’m sorry. I really am. I’m going to take this day to think about what I’ve done. It’ll be a sort of Day of Atonement, just for me. Hopefully, you can find it in your hearts to forgive me.
