OpaVote? Hell Yeah, I Love Gangnam Style!

As an undergraduate Cornell student, I was overjoyed to receive an email from “OpaVote Voting Link.” I thought, “Finally! I get to use my voice for something that matters: a referendum to decide the best of K-Pop icon PSY’s songs!” It came as an absolute surprise; I’m on all the PSY forums, how had I never heard of this new voting platform!

I didn’t even read the subject body, I just kept singing to myself: Op-Op-Op-OpaVote-nam Style!

All over campus, people kept talking about the importance of the referendum. I was stunned. Normally I’m the only one discussing the lyrical genius of Gentleman. Or how the Gangnam Style music video may seem like a silly guy doing stupid dances around South Korea but it’s actually a poignant commentary about income disparity as shown by a smart guy doing really cool dances around South Korea!

Some nice guy in Mann Library gave me 3 Krispy Kreme donuts to make my voice heard! Like what?! I would do that for free! I’m a die hard PSYcho!!!!!

Edit: It has come to my attention that the referendum is unfortunately not about PSY. In hindsight it makes a lot of sense why that guy in Mann was very confused when, between swallowing donuts whole, I started talking about how PSY deserves more credit for paving the way for K-Pop acts to break through to the US. Or why there was no question on the poll asking about how I felt about PSY screaming at the butt of a woman doing yoga 🙁
